The Waxing Moon

Full eclipse the prominence’s around the sun’s edge were incredible. Naked eye visible!

A week ago I was preparing the for the big eclipse adventure. Even today I still reflect on the experience of totality because it is that powerful. I thought about it last night looking at the waxing moon.

I’ve not talked much about the eclipse with anyone that did not directly experience totality. Those outside the shadow path can not understand the sudden change from the sun being just barely visible to then completely covered. One moment you can not look directly at the sun and the next moment you can. And what you see and experience for the next few minutes is magical. Its easy for me to go on and on about the experience but to someone not there, or didn’t even look up that day, you just sound like a lunatic.

The video below is an animation of the next 20 years of total solar eclipses. I ran across this on Mastodon and think it a neat animation of whats to come. And how rare these events for any given location on Earth:

Another interesting video worth linking to is this Quanta Magazine with a good review of the circumstances and history of determining solar eclipses. I do like the Three-Body title, while true its no doubt a clever reference to the currently popular Netflix series.
